Days Out

Santa’s Grotto at Blackthorpe Barn

Hey lovelies,

We have visited Blackthorpe Barns 4 years in a row now and always leave feeling that little bit more festive. The medieval thatched barn situated in Rougham, Bury St. Edmunds, hold many events throughout the year, but visiting this season has definitely become a family tradition of ours.

Full of rustic Christmas decorations, pick your own real trees, wreaths, floristry and crafts you can really make a day of it. My personal favourite is of course the mulled wine van and the café full of coffee, tea and yummy sweet and savoury treats!

Of course the main reason we go here every year is the ‘Santa’s Grotto’ – we are never disappointed and neither are the girls!

At £6 per child and £1 per adult for tickets it’s a very reasonable price and the experience for your little ones is magical to watch.

This is Mila’s first year of really understanding Christmas and from the moment the Elves welcomed her in she didn’t stop smiling. They knew lots about her (of course from the little form you fill in when booking tickets) and they really do give each child that personal experience. You walk through the Grotto which holds an almost mini ‘Winter Wonderland’ and when you reach Santa’s cabin your little one knocks on the door and is greeted with that familiar ‘ho ho ho!’

Santa is also of course informed of your child’s ‘likes and behaviour’ throughout the year and talks about what they have done well. They are then gifted with a bag containing an age appropriate gift and are left feeling very excited. Mila was on her best behaviour the entire time. I’ve visited a few local grottos and this is our absolute favourite. Make sure you book tickets early if you decide to go as they really do sell out fast!!

Lots of love,
